Flexifleet gives Clover’s Mama Afrikas mobility and greater independence
2009-09-30

The lives of two of Clover Mama Afrikas have just been made so much simpler, thanks to Flexifleet. Mama Daphne Oliphant, from the Western Cape, and Mama Doris Ndingane, from the Eastern Cape, were the lucky winners of a live draw on SABC3's 3Talk with Noeleen show where they each won themselves a brand new Toyota Yaris, donated by Flexifleet.

"No words can describe the impact this valuable partnership with FlexiFleet has on our Mamas. Every year one or two Mamas stand a chance of owning their own vehicle, giving them much needed mobility. This new level of independence helps them enormously in the day-to-day running of their community projects," explains Professor Elain Vlok, Manager.

John Loxton, Managing Director of FlexiFleet, says it made sense to support the Clover Mama Afrika initiative as it emphasised realistic economic empowerment, something that is central to Flexifleet's core values and objectives. "The Clover Mama Afrika corporate social investment project is a perfect fit with our own corporate values of empowerment on a sustainable level. This donation is also to prove our level of appreciation for the great work these Mamas do. We will continue to support this project and look forward to an enduring and viable partnership on the business side as well as the CSI side," says Loxton. This is the third year that Eqstra Corporation, through its subsidiary FlexiFleet, supports the Clover Mama Afrika project with vehicles. John Loxton continues, "We are also proud to have Toyota SA on board with us and need to specially thank Andrew Kirby, Senior Vice President of Toyota for their wonderful support. It is said - we don't accomplish anything in this world alone...and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something. I would like to think that this is what we are doing with Clover Mama Afrika, all these individual threads that creates a positive impact for those who truly deserve it."

Prof Vlok adds, "Special thanks and acknowledgement also go to Toyota SA for their valuable participation with FlexiFleet and Graffiti for branding the vehicles that our two Mamas are so proud of."

About our winners

Both Mama Daphne and Mama Doris are remarkable women who have been selflessly helping improve the lives of children and women in their communities for many years. Mama Daphne from Roodewal runs the House of Mercy where she cares for 53 children. She provides these children with basic uniforms so that they can attend school, as well as stationery when she can. She also runs a soup kitchen, teaches sewing, hosts Sunday school classes and attends to HIV and TB patients. Mama Doris from Keiskammahoek, near East London, runs no less than three community projects, including a dairy, poultry and food plot on 10 000sqm. She manages over 30 community members, primarily women, and has also involved the community's youth in the food plot project.

John Loxton and Mama Doris Ndingane "This is a dream come true, I am so proud and excited. It is hard to believe that this beautiful gift is mine and how much it will mean to my project. Thank you FlexiFleet and everyone involved."

John Loxton and Mama Daphne Oliphant "I am still speechless, I have prayed for a long time to receive our own vehicle and now my prayers have been answered. I give my biggest thank you and bless you for this dream come true."
