Baphumelele means "progress" in Xhosa, Mama Rosie Mashale provides a safe and loving haven for more than 220 children who would otherwise face a life on the streets of Khayelitsha. Mama Rosie is dedicated to caring for the children with the aid of 45 caregivers working in 24 hour shifts, seven days a week.

Sustainable skills training:

Cooking & baking
Dedicated caregiver Nosesiko manages "Rosie's Kitchen" where they have a feeding scheme and sells baked goods on a daily basis.

Siyabonga bread oven
Nosesiko also manages the mini bakery that provides fresh bread and much more. This project also adds value to the cooking and baking.

Food gardens
Homegrown fresh produce used for feeding the members residing at the home.

Sewing
Empowers youth of the community and the project is growing.

Woodwork
The home has a fully equipped woodwork workshop where they create job opportunities and produce beach chairs and deck chairs.
