Mama Thokozile - Ixopo
Inkosi (Chief) Thokozile Ndlovu
Vukani Traditional Centre
Ofafa Area
Ixopo
Kwazulu Natal

Chief Thokozile was born and raised in Ofafa and did her schooling in Empageni, she married Chief Ndlovu at a young age. Not being able to have children of her own, her husband did seek another woman and had a son. He was killed in the 1991 violence and being their tradition, she had to take over the responsibility of looking after and raising his illegitimate son who is to become chief when he turns 25. Until then, she was selected as Chief by her community and took over full responsibilities from 1994.

Her responsibilities as Chief includes:

  • Controls the Ofafa area of 6500 ha which consists of 11 schools with an average of 1200 kids per school. (19 classes x 74 kids/class x 11 schools)
  • The Ofafa area is divided into 10 Indunas, each Induna has a responsible person that is selected by the people to control his Induna. These people have to report to Inkosi Thokozile – she is the top authority figure.
