Mama Albertina Bloko started her centre for disabled children in February 2005 and cares for 50 children and young adults. The main reason for her to start the care centre was that she found that disabled children were being isolated and hidden away by their families.

Sustainable skills training:

Cooking & baking
Empowered 3 members: cooks for the centre and started a small scale catering service. All children receive a freshly baked cake for their birthday.

Sewing
Mama Albertina has excelled in sewing. She has even won the Bernina/Clover Mama Afrika sewing competition. It is fast becoming a successful project for her centre.

Beading & Basket weaving
Therapeutic skill for the members and a profitable one. Designer beaded jewellery is sold at R50 per set. Basket weaving – medium sized baskets are the most popular.

Food gardens
Homegrown produce is used to feed the members at the centre.

Siyabonga bread oven
8 members were trained to work with the mini bakery This has enabled the centre to save money as they are now able to bake their own bread as well as sell it.
